Palnati Yuddham (1947)

Synopsis: King Anugu of Palnadu has three sons - Nalagama Raju, Narasinga Raju and Malideva Raju from his three wives. Before his death, he anoints Nalagama Raju the king and leaves him to the care of his minister Brahmanaidu. During Anugu's rule a wealthy and powerful woman Nagamma enters the kingdom. Brahmanna is a Vaishnavite, while Nagamma is a staunch Saivite. Progressive-minded Brahmanna allows Harijan entry into temples and appoints a Harijan, Kannama Dasu as the army commander. This irks the upper caste people and also the prince Narasinga Raju, who seeks the help of Nagamma. In the king's court, Nagamma accuses Brahmanna of fomenting trouble. This leads to Malideva demanding a division of the kingdom. Much against the wish of Nagamma, Nalagama divides the kingdom, and Macherla is given to Malideva, who rules it with Brahmanaidu as his adviser. Synopsis: Kovalan, the rich merchant of the sea in the Chola Kingdom and Kannagi, his beautiful virtuous and devout wife lived happily till the danseuse Madhavi entered Kovalan's life. He attended the maiden dance performance of the voluptuous Madhavi in the King's court. Pleased withe her performance, the Chola king gifted her gold coins and the customary green leave garland. Madhavi's mother Chitra auctioned the garland as per tradition and Kovalan bid the highest amount thus becoming the lord of Madhavi who by then fell in love with him. Kovalan's friend Velu had an amorous eye on Madhavi and was dismayed at being forestalled in the bid. Passionately in love with Madhavi, Kovalan lost all his wealth including his wife's jewels to please her mother. Synopsis: Prakash, a revenue inspector lived happily with his wife Kamala, sister Kantham and son Kittu till his neighbour Venkaiah's young second wife Anasuya brings dishormony in his marital life. She has a step daughter Bobjee who tries to scuttle the plot. Prakash has a wealthy friend, the popular singer Kamaraju. Anasuya has a crush on Kamaraju but he spurns her advances and a humiliated Anasuya plots revenge with the help of Mangapathi, a local rowdy. They spread rumours about the amorous relationship between Kamala and Kamaraju. Hurt by these rumours, Kamala attempts suicide but is saved. Kamaraju with Rathnam finds out that the handwriting on the love letter supposedly written by him and Anasuya's are similar. The truth comes out. Illalu (1940)

Synopsis: Indira (Kanchanamala) is happily married to Murthy (Umamaheswara Rao) till Murthy falls in love with an educated and sophisticated Leela (Lakshmi Rajyam) and brings her as his second wife. This naturally leaves Indira in pain and anguish. However she performs her duties as the devoted wife on one side and wins over her 'savathi' on the other with patience and perseverance. Leela undergoes a change of heart before fate plays with her life. Finally Indira emerges triumphant. To take the story forwared there are other characters like the romantic poet, Madhu (Saluri Rajeswara Rao), and his spouse Sarala (Rao Balasaraswathi Devi). Raitu Bidda (1939)

Synopsis: The story was set in Nagapuram. Rami Reddy (Kosaraju) contests elections representing the peasants. The powerful Zamindar (Gidugu Sitapathi) nominates Venkayya (E. Seshaiah) as his candidate. The shavukar (Makeup chief MC Raghavan) and the village Karanam (VV Subbaiah) force Narsi Reddy (Bellari Raghava) the peasant leader to support the zamindar's candidate. Narsi Reddy refuses. The wily zamindar arranges a Kuchipudi dance (Vedantam Raghavaiah choreographed and played) and locks up those who attended the show to keep them away from casting their vote. Mala Pilla (1938)

Synopsis: The story is based on the discrimination against Harijans in villages. While some try to end discrimination, the Brahmins oppose it headed by priest Sunderarama Shastri (Subba Rao). His photographer son Nagaraju (Venkateswara Rao) falls in love with Shamapalatha (Kanchanamala), a Harijan girl and elopes with her to Calcutta where he teaches her to read and write. The two sects fight over water and work. After Shastri's wife is saved by the Harijans from a fire accident, his view of them changes. With the police and a few civilians, the situation in the village calms down while Nagaraju and Shampalatha are married with Shastri's blessings.
